Question that inspired this post:

I have a talent passport (Carte Bleu) valid till June 2027 issued (in June 2023). I have been offered a CDD contract (1yr) in A different city in France.

1) Am I allowed to do this job change?

2) What will be the impact on my titre de sejour?

Top Answer

"If the CDD respects the salary limit of your actual blue card, then you don’t have any issues working with the current card. One additional thing you can do if this is the case is that you can do an address change after you move to the new city."

Based on the information provided, here are the answers to your questions:

Am I allowed to do this job change?

Yes, you are generally allowed to change jobs while holding a Talent Passport (Carte Bleue). However, there are some important considerations:

  • The new job must still meet the eligibility criteria for the Talent Passport, including the minimum salary requirement (currently €53,836.50 gross annual salary as of May 2023).

  • You should inform the prefecture about your change in employment situation.

What will be the impact on my titre de séjour?

Changing jobs should not automatically invalidate your titre de séjour, but there are some potential impacts to be aware of:

  • Your current Talent Passport remains valid until its expiration date in June 2027, provided you continue to meet the eligibility requirements.

  • You may need to apply for a new work permit for the new position.

  • Some prefectures may require you to apply for a new Talent Passport if you change employers, although this is not consistently applied across all prefectures.

Important considerations:

  • Ensure your new CDD contract meets the minimum salary and qualification requirements for the Talent Passport.

  • Notify the prefecture of your change in employment at least 3 months before starting the new job.

  • Be prepared to potentially apply for a new Talent Passport if required by your prefecture, which could reset the 4-year validity period.

  • If possible, consult with the prefecture or an immigration specialist before making the job change to understand any specific requirements in your situation.

While changing jobs is generally allowed, it's crucial to maintain compliance with the Talent Passport requirements to avoid any issues with your residency status.

Given that your new contract is a CDD (fixed-term), ensure that it aligns with the Talent Passport criteria, which typically requires a permanent contract or a fixed-term contract of at least 12 months
