Question that inspired this post:

Hello guys, today morning my friend with an APS visa was travelling to Germany by Flix bus and he was denied entry to Germany by Passport control and was asked to go back to France.

I am also on APS and I am on my way to Germany now I am worried they’ll deny me as well

Can anyone suggest how to proceed in this case

Thanks

"An APS if it has not expired is a valid document to travel even outside the Schengen; why did they refuse exactly ?"

"My friend said the border authorities believe that APS is only for France and he’s not eligible to enter Germany"

Introduction

If your friend was denied entry to Germany while travelling with an APS visa for tourism, it is essential to understand the potential reasons and take steps to ensure you have all the necessary documentation and information to avoid similar issues. Here are some steps and considerations:

Potential Reasons for Denial

  1. Incorrect Visa Type: The APS (Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour) visa is typically issued for specific purposes such as job searching or volunteering in France, and it may not be valid for tourism in Germany. Ensure that your visa type allows for travel to Germany for tourism purposes.

  2. Incomplete or Incorrect Documentation: Ensure that all required documents are complete and correctly filled out. This includes:

  • Valid passport

  • APS certificate

  • Proof of financial means

  • Health insurance

  • Proof of accommodation (if required)

  • Return ticket or proof of onward travel

3. Border Control Checks: Random checks by border control can occur, especially for buses entering Germany from other Schengen countries. Ensure that all travel documents are readily available and valid.

Steps to Proceed

  1. Double-Check Documentation: Before travelling, double-check all your documents to ensure they are complete and valid. This includes your APS certificate, visa, passport, and any other required documents.

  2. Contact Authorities: If you are unsure about your documentation or have specific concerns, contact the German Embassy or Consulate for clarification. They can guide any additional steps you may need to take.

  3. Prepare for Border Checks: Be prepared for potential border checks. Carry all necessary documents in an easily accessible manner and be ready to present them if asked.

  4. Seek Assistance: If you encounter issues at the border, seek assistance from the border control officers. Explain your situation clearly and provide all necessary documentation.

  5. Travel Alternatives: If travelling by bus poses a risk, consider alternative travel methods such as flights, where border checks might be more streamlined.

Additional Tips

  • Stay Informed: Keep yourself updated with the latest travel advisories and requirements from the German Embassy or Consulate.

  • Plan Ahead: Ensure that you have all documents well in advance of your travel date to avoid last-minute issues.

  • Consult Experts: If needed, consult with immigration experts or agencies that specialize in visas for Germany.

If Denied Entry

  1. Ask for Reasons: Politely ask the border control officers for the specific reasons for the denial. Understanding the issue can help address it for future travel.

  2. Immediate Return: If asked to return to France, comply with the instructions and return as soon as possible to avoid any legal complications.

  3. Document the Incident: Keep a record of the incident, including names, times, and any documents provided by the authorities.

  4. Seek Assistance: Contact the French consulate or embassy in Germany to explain your situation and seek advice. They may be able to provide guidance or assist with future travel plans.

By taking these steps, you can minimize the risk of being denied entry and ensure a smoother travel experience to Germany.
