Question that inspired this post:
I recently moved from Paris to Montpellier (Saussan) in the Hérault department (34), and I'm having trouble renewing my APS Chercher d'Emploi Titre de Séjour. I hold an Indian passport, which allows me to apply for another year, but here’s the problem:
The Paris Prefecture still has my file, and the Montpellier Prefecture says they can’t process my renewal until the file is transferred.
I can’t apply online, and despite sending many messages and making calls, each prefecture keeps saying it's the other one's responsibility.
To make matters more complicated, I’m frequently travelling to London for a big project, so I’m not always in France my visa expires in a month and I need to be able to travel back and forth.
Has anyone experienced something similar or knows how to get my file transferred from Paris to Montpellier? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for your help!

"You have to change your address first using the online services website and once that is done, you will be able to apply at the prefecture of your region."

Based on your situation, here are some suggestions to help expedite the transfer of your file from Paris to Montpellier:
Contact both prefectures in writing (email and registered mail) explaining your urgent situation and requesting an expedited transfer of your file from Paris to Montpellier. Include copies of all relevant documents, including your expiring APS and proof of your work project in London.
Ask the Montpellier prefecture if they can issue you a temporary récépissé while waiting for the file transfer, to allow you to continue traveling for work. Bring proof of your pending renewal application.
Try to make an in-person appointment at the Montpellier prefecture to explain your urgent situation. Bring all supporting documents, including proof of your new address in Saussan.
Contact the Paris prefecture and ask if they can send your file directly to Montpellier, explaining the urgency due to your expiring APS and work commitments.
If possible, try to remain in France until this is resolved, as re-entering may be difficult once your current APS expires.
As an Indian national, confirm you are eligible for the 2-year APS option. This may give you more flexibility.
If you continue to face difficulties, consider contacting an immigration lawyer for assistance navigating the bureaucracy and expediting the transfer.
The key is to be persistent in your communications with both prefectures, document everything in writing, and emphasize the urgency of your situation due to your expiring APS and work commitments. Hopefully, with focused effort, you can get your file transferred and APS renewed before it expires.
