Question that inspired this post:
I am seeking some information. I want to invite a friend to France under the long-stay visitor category. I have a few questions regarding this matter:
Is it possible for me to invite a friend under the long-stay visitor category
And if I provide accommodation and show funds for his stay in France? In this case, does my friend need to show any funds or financial resources from his side?
Additionally, could you please provide all other relevant information related to this matter?
Answer
"Yes, you can invite anyone under the visa there is no restriction for having any family ties with the guest. However, he/she needs to make convincing reason(s) for the purpose/intention to avoid rejections. This can be done by a cover letter.
An important point is that the guest should show their "binding links" with the Original country like some property; a job; and family living back home. This is a way to indicate that you have no intention to permanently settle in France and will eventually return.
For resources it can be of anyone or both / the max you show is better (Just a reminder should be at least at the level of present SMIC). In case it is the invitee a sponsorship letter along with all corresponding proofs will be needed. This may include but not exhausted
Salary slip/savings accounts like LIVERT-A, LDDS, Employees saving A/C etc."

Introduction
Inviting a friend to France for an extended stay is a generous and thoughtful gesture, but it comes with a series of steps and requirements.
This guide will walk you through the process of inviting a friend under the long-stay visitor visa (Visa de Long Séjour - Visiteur), ensuring you understand the key points and necessary documentation.
Key Points About the Long-Stay Visitor Visa
1. Eligibility for Long-Stay Visitor Visa
The long-stay visitor visa is suitable for non-EU citizens who wish to stay in France for more than 90 days without engaging in any professional activities. This visa allows your friend to stay in France for up to one year.
2. Financial Requirements
Host's Role:
Accommodation and Financial Support: You can provide proof of accommodation and financial support. This requires demonstrating a stable income or substantial savings to cover your friend's expenses.
Attestation d'accueil: Obtain this certificate from your local town hall (mairie) which certifies you will host the visitor for a fixed period. The application cost €30.
Friend’s Role:
Proof of Financial Resources: Your friend may still need to demonstrate their financial resources, ensuring some financial independence. Typically, the minimum amount required is €32.50 per day when staying with a host.
3. Required Documentation
Documents Provided by You (the Host):
Invitation Letter: A formal letter stating that you will provide accommodation and financial support.
Proof of Accommodation: Copy of lease agreement, property deed, or attestation d’hébergement.
Financial Proof: Bank statements, pay slips, tax returns, etc.
Proof of Relationship: Documents or photos demonstrate your relationship with your friend.
Documents Provided by Your Friend (the Applicant):
Visa Application Form: Completed long-stay visa application form.
Passport: Valid passport with at least three months beyond the end of the intended stay and at least two blank pages.
Passport-Sized Photos: Recent passport-sized photographs.
Proof of Funds: Bank statements or proof of their financial resources.
Travel Insurance: Proof of comprehensive health and travel insurance covering the entire stay.
Evidence of Purpose of Stay: Explanation of the purpose and duration of their stay.
Proof of Accommodation: Your attestation d’hébergement and proof of your residence in France.
Proof of Socio-Professional Status: Proof of employment, studies, or retirement.
4. Application Process
Steps:
Appointment: Your friend needs to make an appointment at the French consulate or embassy in their home country.
Submission of Documents: Submit all required documents during the appointment.
Interview: An interview might be required to discuss their plans and means of support.
Application Fee: Payment of the visa application fee.
5. After Arrival in France
OFII Registration:
Within three months of arrival, your friend must register with the French Office of Immigration and Integration (OFII). This may include a medical examination and a validation fee.
Depending on the length of stay, they might need to apply for a residency card (Carte de Séjour).

Inviting a friend to France under the long-stay visitor visa category involves several steps:
Eligibility: Your friend must meet the criteria for a long-stay visitor visa.
Financial Support: Both you and your friend need to show sufficient financial resources.
