Question that inspired this post:

I have applied for a visitor visa and am being financially sponsored by my father, his bank statements were over €10k monthly but I provided bank statements with 0€ would this affect my application even if I had a sponsorship letter from him and he has sufficient funds in his account? The sponsor letter also included 1600€ being disposed of in my possession each month

"Just have your father deposit money into your account...why do you feel you have to report anything coming from him? All you have to show is an account with money in it. Are you under 18? or a student? Fine.. But if you're just someone visiting France temporarily I wouldn't mention your father!"

"If you are staying with a family, they must go through some paperwork from the Mairie. Just an invitation letter from them is not enough for France. If you are coming as a tourist you should have just done an itinerary of your voyage and showed enough funds to support your stay. Thats all. It doesn't matter if it's your or your father's.

If it's your father's account then he writes a statement declaring he is fully financially responsible for your expense when you apply for the visa."

  1. Based on the information provided, here's an analysis of your visitor visa application situation:

  2. Sponsor's financial capacity: Your father's bank statements showing over €10,000 monthly demonstrate strong financial resources, which is positive for your application.

  3. Your bank statements: Providing bank statements with €0 balance may raise concerns, even with a sponsorship letter. Immigration officials typically prefer to see some personal funds to demonstrate financial responsibility.

  4. Sponsorship letter: The letter from your father stating he will provide €1,600 per month is helpful. This amount exceeds the minimum daily requirement of €120 for visitors without proof of accommodation, which is positive.

  5. Supporting documentation: It's crucial to provide comprehensive supporting documents along with the sponsorship letter, such as:

    1. Your father's bank statements

    2. Proof of your father's income or employment

    3. Any official documents certifying your relationship

  6. Proof of funds transfer: While not explicitly stated in your situation, it would have been beneficial to show evidence that your father has transferred funds to your account, demonstrating a history of financial support.

  7. Overall financial picture: While your father's funds are substantial, the lack of funds in your account might raise questions about your financial ties to your home country and your intention to return after the visit.

To improve your application:

  • Ensure the sponsorship letter is detailed and includes:

    1. The duration of the sponsorship.

    2. The exact amount of money being provided (€1,600 per month).

    3. A clear statement of your father's commitment to covering all your expenses.

  • Include a letter from your father explaining why he is sponsoring you and confirming his financial capability and willingness to support you.

  • If possible, provide additional documentation that shows your access to these funds, such as a joint account or a written agreement detailing the transfer of funds to your account monthly.

While each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis, the more thorough and clear your documentation, the better your chances of a successful application.

In conclusion, while your father's financial capacity is strong, the lack of funds in your account could potentially affect your application. Immigration officials typically look for a combination of personal funds and sponsor support.

For future applications, it would be advisable to show some personal funds and evidence of regular transfers from your sponsor to strengthen your case.
