Question that inspired this post(posted on 01/10/2024):

I arrived in France as a student and completed my diploma. During this time, I extended my student visa and received my récépissé. Recently, I secured employment, and my employer has applied for a work permit on my behalf. However, my current récépissé is set to expire tomorrow, and I have not yet received a new one. Additionally, my work permit application is still being processed.

Given these circumstances, I would like to inquire if there will be any issues should I travel within France while awaiting the renewal of my récépissé and the approval of my work permit.

"Normally there shouldn't be any issues.

If you have any confirmation email from the préfecture or something like that, keep it with you.

And yes, even though the récépissé expires soon, keep it with you all the time."

"To the best of my knowledge, there shouldn't be any issues to travel within France."

Travelling within France while your récépissé is expiring and your work permit is pending should generally not pose significant issues, as long as you remain within the country. Here are some key points to consider:

Travelling Within France

  • Récépissé Validity: Your récépissé allows you to stay legally in France until your new residence permit is processed. However, it is crucial to ensure that you have proof of your ongoing application, such as a confirmation from the préfecture.

  • Documentation: Carry all relevant documents with you, including your expired residence permit, récépissé, and any correspondence related to your work permit application.

Travelling Outside France

  • Avoid International Travel: It is generally advised not to travel outside France with an expired récépissé unless it explicitly states that travel is permitted. Returning to France could be problematic without a valid permit

  • Consult the Préfecture: If you need to travel internationally, consult the issuing préfecture or seek legal advice to understand your specific permissions.

Recommendations

  • Stay Informed: Keep in touch with the préfecture for updates on your work permit application and récépissé renewal.

  • Legal Advice: Consider consulting an immigration lawyer if you have specific concerns or need further clarification on your status.

By staying informed and prepared, you can minimize potential issues while waiting for your work permit approval.
