Question that inspired this post:

Bonjour!

I would like to volunteer in Paris/France but don’t know where to start or what I’m after. I’m fluent in English and only know basic French at this stage (slowly learning). Is there a website for volunteering or something to help me along?

Thank you

Steps to Start Volunteering

  1. Identify Your Interests: Determine what types of volunteer work interest you the most, such as working with children, environmental conservation, assisting the elderly, animal welfare, or community services.

  • Be Honest About Your Language Skills: When applying, be clear about your current level of French. Some organizations may have roles that are more flexible with language requirements.

  • Start Small: Consider starting with short-term or one-off volunteer opportunities to get a feel for the organization and the type of work you enjoy.

  • Network: Attend community events or meetups for expats and locals, where you might learn about volunteer opportunities through word of mouth.

  • Commitment: Be clear about your availability and commitment level to ensure a good match between you and the organization.

Volunteering is a great way to immerse yourself in French culture, improve your language skills, and make a positive impact.

Bonne chance with your volunteering endeavours!
